The Zombie Who Loved Padel
Lily never believed in monsters until the night she heard a groan from her backyard. She crept to the window, her curly hair bouncing with each step, and peeked through the curtains.
There, under the moonlight, stood a greenish figure with messy, mossy hair shambling toward her garden pond. A zombie! But instead of looking scary, the creature looked sad and thirsty.
Lily grabbed her water bottle and tiptoed outside. "Excuse me?" she whispered.
The zombie jumped. His mossy hair wobbled. "Oh! A human! I'm not here to eat brains. I'm here to play!"
"Play?" Lily asked, confused.
The zombie nodded enthusiastically. "My name is Zog. I've watched you play padel with your dad every weekend. It looks like so much fun!"
Lily's eyes widened. "You want to play padel?"
"More than anything!" Zog's face lit up. "But I need energy first. That's why I came here. I smelled your mom's magical spinach patch!"
Lily giggled. "That's not magic spinach. But it IS delicious. Come on!"
They harvested fresh spinach leaves together. Zog ate them and immediately perked up—his green skin shimmered, and his mossy hair bounced with energy.
"Now, padel!" Zog cheered.
They played until sunrise, laughing as Zog discovered he was a natural. The padel ball zipped across the court, and with every hit, Zog became less zombie-like and more like a regular boy.
"The spinach and friendship broke my curse!" Zog exclaimed, now looking fully human. "I was trapped as a zombie until someone showed me kindness and shared something they loved."
As the sun rose, Zog had to return to his world, but he promised to visit. "Remember," he said, "sometimes the scariest things just need a little water, some spinach, and a friend who believes in them."
Lily waved goodbye, her heart full. She had learned that adventure comes from opening your heart—and sometimes, the best friends are found in the most unexpected places, even if they do have mossy hair.
