The Zombie Who Loved Padel

Lily had the wildest, curliest hair in her whole class. It bounced when she walked and puffed up like a cloud when she ran. Every morning, her mom tried to tame it with ribbons and clips, but Lily's hair had a mind of its own.

One sunny Saturday, Lily and her best friend Emma went to the park. They carried their padel rackets — bright pink ones with sparkly stickers. Padel was their favorite game, like tennis but with magical walls that made the ball zoom and bounce in surprising ways.

"Race you to the court!" Emma called, her braids flying behind her.

But when they reached the padel court, someone was already there. A shuffling figure with greenish skin, messy black hair, and clothes that looked like they'd been through a storm. He stood near the net, clutching an old racket.

"A ZOMBIE!" Emma whispered, grabbing Lily's arm.

Lily's heart raced, but she noticed something strange. The zombie wasn't scary — he looked lonely. His shoulders slumped, and he kept peeking at them through his stringy hair.

"H-hello?" Lily called out bravely.

The zombie jumped. "I'm not a real zombie," he said quickly. "I'm Milo! I was playing in the mud and my face got all green from the algae near the pond. My older brother dared me to scare people, but..." He kicked at the ground. "I just wanted to play padel. No one ever wants to play with me."

Lily's curly hair seemed to sparkle in the sunlight. "We're playing padel right now! Want to join?"

Milo's face lit up. "Really?"

"Really!" said Emma, smiling now that she knew the truth. "I'm Emma, and this is Lily. We're friends."

They played padel for hours. Milo was funny and kind, and he had the most amazing trick shots. Sometimes the ball would bounce off the wall and spin like a tornado, and Milo would laugh with pure joy.

"Best day ever!" Milo shouted, his green-smudged face beaming.

Lily high-fived him, leaving a tiny green mark on her hand. She didn't mind. Sometimes things that look scary aren't scary at all. Sometimes they're just new friends waiting to be found.

And sometimes, the best adventures start with being brave enough to say hello.
