The Zombie Who Loved Padel
Lily's golden retriever, Max, always knew when something magical was about to happen. His tail would thump-thump-thump against the floor, and his nose would twitch like he could smell adventure in the air.
One sunny afternoon, Lily and Max discovered an old padel court behind the woods. The net was slightly torn, and vines curled around the fence posts, but the court had a mysterious glow about it.
"Hello?" Lily called out, her padel racket raised ready to play.
From behind a bush emerged a creature Lily had only seen in storybooks—a zombie! But this zombie was different. Instead of being scary, he wore a friendly smile and held an old padel racket. His green skin shimmered like emeralds in the sunlight.
"I'm Zephyr," the zombie said softly. "I've been waiting 300 years for someone to play padel with me."
Max bounded forward, his tail wagging furiously. He sensed kindness, not danger.
"But zombies are supposed to be scary," Lily whispered, lowering her racket.
Zephyr's smile faded. "That's just what people say. I was once a padel champion who loved the game so much, the magic of the court kept me here. I just want to play one more match."
Lily looked at Zephyr's hopeful face, then at Max, who was already chasing a ball toward the zombie. Sometimes, things aren't what they seem.
"I'll play with you!" Lily declared.
They played padel until sunset—Zephyr taught Lily ancient magical moves that made the ball sparkle, and Lily taught Zephyr new techniques. Max cheered and chased every ball.
As the last ray of sunlight disappeared, Zephyr began to fade. "Thank you," he whispered. "You proved that friendship matters more than fear."
Lily waved goodbye as Zephyr turned into hundreds of glowing butterflies and danced into the sky.
That night, Lily learned that sometimes the scariest-looking things just need a friend, and that magic lives wherever kindness is found.
Max thumped his tail in agreement, already dreaming of their next adventure.
