The Zombie Who Loved Padel
Lily loved helping in her grandmother's magical garden. Every Saturday, she'd water the talking flowers and sing to the dancing vegetables. But today was special. Grandma had grown something extraordinary - enchanted spinach that sparkled like tiny green stars!
"This spinach can bring joy to anyone who tastes it," Grandma said with a wink.
Nearby, old Mr. Higgins' garden looked sad and gray. He had been grumpy for months, ever since his favorite old TV stopped working. The cable had broken, and he missed watching his padel tournaments so much that he hardly left his house. The neighborhood children called him "the zombie" because he shuffled around like he was half-asleep.
Lily had an idea! She gathered handfuls of the magical spinach and skipped to Mr. Higgins' house. Her knock echoed softly.
The door creaked open, and there stood Mr. Higgins, looking pale and tired. But when Lily offered him the glowing spinach, something amazing happened. His eyes widened as he took a bite.
"Why, this tastes like sunshine!" Mr. Higgins exclaimed, color returning to his cheeks.
"Grandma says it brings joy," Lily smiled. "And I know what would make you joyful!"
She pulled a shiny new cable from her pocket - her dad had helped her find the perfect one. Together, they connected Mr. Higgins' TV. Just then, children walked past carrying padel rackets on their way to the park.
Mr. Higgins' face lit up. "I used to play padel! I was quite good!"
"Would you teach us?" Lily asked.
That afternoon, Mr. Higgins became the neighborhood's favorite padel coach. He wasn't a zombie anymore - he was full of life, running and laughing with the children. And every week, Lily brought him more magical spinach.
"The best friendships," Grandma told Lily later, "start when we choose kindness over judgment."
Lily smiled, watching Mr. Higgins high-five the children. Sometimes, all someone needs is a little magic - and a friend who cares.
