The Zombie Who Loved Padel

Lily loved Saturdays. Every Saturday morning, she met her best friend Sam at the park to play padel. They weren't very good, but they laughed every time someone missed the ball.

One foggy afternoon, Lily and Sam decided to be spies. They dressed in black and tiptoed behind the old equipment shed near the padel court. That's when they heard it — a sad, shuffling sound.

"What's that?" Lily whispered, clutching her padel racket like a shield.

From behind the bushes emerged a small green figure. It had messy hair, one sock on the wrong foot, and the saddest eyes Lily had ever seen.

"I... I'm a zombie," the little creature sniffled. "But I'm not scary. I'm just lonely and lost."

Lily and Sam looked at each other. This zombie wasn't like the ones in movies! He was smaller than them and looked like he needed a friend.

"I'm Zed," the zombie said. "I've been wandering for days. Everyone runs away when they see me."

"Not us," said Sam bravely. "We're spies, and spies help people who need it. Right, Lily?"

"Right!" Lily grinned. "Hey Zed, do you want to play padel with us?"

Zed's eyes widened. "I've never played before. Is it fun?"

"It's the BEST!" Lily handed him a racket. The three new friends played until sunset. Zed was terrible at padel — he kept tripping over his own feet — but he laughed more than anyone.

"You're our friend now, Zed," Lily said as the sun went down. "Being a spy means finding hidden treasures, and we found you."

Zed smiled, his green face glowing. "I thought I'd never find friends who didn't care that I'm a zombie."

"That's the best secret of all," Sam whispered. "Real friends look at your heart, not what you look like."

Every Saturday after that, the three friends — two kids and one zombie — played padel together. And sometimes, they went on spy adventures around the park, helping anyone who looked lonely or lost.

Because the best spies aren't the ones who sneak around. The best spies are the ones who find hearts that need friends.
