The Zombie Who Loved Padel
Lily pushed her messy hair out of her eyes and picked up her padel racket. The sun was shining on the court, and her golden retriever, Buster, was wagging his tail so hard his whole body wiggled.
"Ready to practice, Buster?" Lily asked. Buster barked happily.
Lily's grandpa had given her the padel racket last week. She loved hitting the ball against the wall and watching it bounce back. But today something strange happened.
As Lily hit the ball, it didn't bounce back. Instead, it rolled behind a big bush.
"I'll get it!" Lily said. But when she peeked behind the bush, she gasped.
A green figure stood there. It had wild, purple hair that stuck up like grass. Its skin was slightly green, and it moved a bit slowly. A zombie!
Lily wanted to run, but the zombie didn't look scary. It held the padel ball carefully and smiled.
"Nice hit," the zombie said. "I'm Zara. I love padel too."
Buster ran over and sniffed Zara's hand. He licked it happily.
"Zara's friendly!" Lily said, surprised.
Zara explained she was magical, not scary. Her green skin came from sleeping in a meadow of clover, and her purple hair from touching special flowers. She'd been watching Lily practice and wanted to be friends.
"Will you teach me?" Zara asked.
Lily smiled. "Of course!"
They played padel together all afternoon. Zara wasn't the best player, but she laughed every time she missed. Buster chased the balls and brought them back. Lily's messy hair didn't matter anymore – Zara's purple hair was much crazier!
When the sun began to set, Zara had to go back to her magical meadow. But she promised to return.
"Thank you for not being scared," Zara said. "Most people run away when they see me."
Lily hugged her new friend. "Grandpa says never judge someone by how they look. It's what's inside that counts."
Zara smiled. "Your grandpa is wise."
Lily waved goodbye, her hair even messier from playing. Buster barked as Zara disappeared into the sunset.
That night, Lily wrote in her diary: "Today I learned something important. Things that seem scary might just be misunderstood. And the best friends come when you least expect them – even if they have green skin and purple hair!"
She fell asleep dreaming of padel games with Zara, wondering what adventures tomorrow would bring.
