The Zombie Who Loved Padel

Lily loved summer mornings at the lake. The sparkling water shimmered like diamonds under the golden sun, and the air smelled of adventure and possibility. But today, something peculiar floated near the old wooden dock.

It was greenish and somewhat bumpy, with one arm raised high above the surface. Lily squinted. A zombie? In her peaceful lake?

She crept closer, clutching her padel racquet tight. The thing wasn't scary like in cartoons. It just looked… lonely.

"Hello?" Lily called out softly.

The zombie turned slowly. Its eyes weren't scary red— they were a gentle, confused brown. "Blllrrrg?" it said, pointing at a bright pink ball bobbing in the water.

"Oh!" Lily laughed. "You want to play?"

The zombie nodded enthusiastically. Its name was Zog, she learned, and he'd been lonely underwater for hundreds of years, ever since he'd been cursed by a grumpy mermaid who hated fun. The only thing that could break the spell? Finding someone who would play with him without running away.

Lily grinned. "Well, Zog, you've found a friend!"

They played padel right there at the edge of the lake—Lily on the dock, Zog waist-deep in the cool water. Splash! Zog missed a shot and water sprayed everywhere. Lily laughed so hard she almost fell into the lake too.

For hours they played, the ball flying back and forth over an imaginary net. With every hit, Zog's green skin became a little rosier, his bumps smoothed out, and his smile grew wider.

As the sun began to set, painting the sky in oranges and pinks, Zog looked at his hands—now perfectly normal. "You broke the curse," he said, his voice clear and strong. "You saw me, not a monster. You played with me, not ran away."

"That's what friends do," Lily said simply.

"I'll never forget your kindness," Zog promised. "And whenever you need a game, just call my name by the water's edge."

He gave her one last splash and disappeared beneath the shimmering surface.

Lily walked home, wet and tired but full of joy. She had learned something wonderful that day: sometimes the scariest-looking things just need a friend—and a good game of padel—to show their true colors.
