The Zombie Who Loved Padel
Lily and Max were best friends who loved spending summer days at the Sunny Creek Pool. Every morning, they would grab their padel racquets from the pool clubhouse and play on the small court near the snack bar. Lily was better at hitting the ball hard, but Max was excellent at trick shots.
"Race you to the water!" Lily shouted after their game, dropping her racquet and sprinting toward the pool.
"Wait up!" Max laughed, following close behind.
They loved swimming, especially during the quiet morning hours when the pool was nearly empty. The cool blue water felt like magic against their skin, and they would pretend to be explorers searching for hidden treasures in the deep end.
One day, while practicing their underwater handstands, Lily noticed someone strange standing by the pool fence. It was a tall figure with messy green hair, wearing mismatched clothes and walking in a slow, shaky way.
"Max!" Lily whispered, pulling her friend underwater. "I think there's a zombie outside!"
Max's eyes went wide. They had both seen zombie movies and knew exactly what zombies looked like—slow, shaky, and definitely not friendly.
The mysterious figure moved closer to the fence. "H-hello?" a voice called out weakly.
Lily and Max peeked over the edge of the pool. To their surprise, the zombie was holding... a padel racquet?
"I saw you playing," the zombie continued. "I used to play padel too, before I became a pool lifeguard twenty years ago. My name is Mr. Green, and I walk funny because I hurt my leg saving someone from drowning."
Lily and Max looked at each other in amazement. Mr. Green wasn't a zombie at all!
"Would you like to play?" Lily asked kindly.
Mr. Green's face lit up. For the next hour, they played the most fun game of padel ever. Mr. Green told them stories about all the pool adventures he'd seen, and even though he moved slowly, he could still hit the ball perfectly.
From that day on, Lily and Max learned an important lesson: sometimes things that seem scary at first turn out to be wonderful friends in disguise. And every summer morning, you could find them at the Sunny Creek Pool, laughing, swimming, and playing padel with their friend Mr. Green—whose green hair was just from swimming in the pool so much!
