The Zombie Who Loved Oranges

Lily and Max were best friends who loved adventures. One sunny afternoon, they were running through the enchanted forest behind their house when they heard a strange sound.

"What's that?" Lily whispered, stopping under a towering palm tree.

"I don't know," Max said. "It sounds like... groaning?"

Curious and brave, the friends crept closer. There, sitting on a mossy rock, was the saddest creature they had ever seen. It looked like a zombie, with patchy green skin and stitches on its elbows, but instead of being scary, it was crying.

"Hello?" Lily said gently.

The zombie jumped! "Oh! You can see me? Everyone always runs away!"

"Why would we run away?" Max asked. "You seem nice."

The zombie sniffled. "I'm Benny. And I'm not really a zombie. I'm a magical garden keeper who had an accident with a spell. Now I look scary, but I just want to tend my orange grove."

Lily's eyes lit up. "You have ORANGES?"

Benny nodded, then pointed a shaky finger toward a magnificent orange tree nearby. But something was wrong. A beautiful golden bull was standing guard in front of it, looking fierce.

"That's Ferdinand," Benny explained. "He's the spirit protector of the orange tree. He won't let anyone near the fruit, but the oranges are going bad! They need to be picked, or they'll all rot!"

Lily thought fast. "Maybe Ferdinand is lonely? He guards the tree all alone."

Max approached the golden bull slowly. "Hello, Ferdinand. We're here to help. These oranges need picking, and Benny knows how to do it properly. Would you like to be friends?"

The bull's golden eyes softened. He lowered his massive head and nudged Max's hand with his velvety nose.

Together, the four new friends spent the afternoon picking the juiciest oranges. Benny showed them how to choose the perfect ones, while Ferdinand carried full baskets in his strong horns.

"This was the best day ever!" Lily said, peeling an orange.

Benny smiled, his stitches stretching happily. "I learned something too. Sometimes things that seem scary are just lonely. And sometimes the best friends come in the most unexpected packages."

As the sun set, they sat under the palm tree eating oranges together, laughing and talking. Lily and Max had discovered that kindness and courage could turn any scary situation into a wonderful adventure.

From that day on, they visited Benny and Ferdinand every week. The zombie gardener, the golden bull, and two brave children proved that the strongest magic of all is friendship.
