The Zombie Who Loved Oranges

Lily loved the old swimming pool in her backyard, even though it hadn't been used in years. The pool had turned into a magical place, with flowers growing through the cracks and fireflies dancing above the water at night.

One summer evening, Lily was sitting by the pool, eating a juicy orange. The sunset painted the sky in shades of purple and pink, making the pool water shimmer like liquid jewels.

Suddenly, something splashed in the water!

Lily peeked over the edge. A green, bumpy creature was floating in the pool. It looked a little scary, with messy hair and one eye slightly closed.

"A zombie!" Lily gasped, dropping her orange slice.

The zombie's eye opened wide. "I'm not a zombie!" it said in a friendly, gurgling voice. "I'm Zimbly, a water sprite! I've been sleeping in this pool for fifty years!"

Zimbly looked sad. "Everyone calls me a zombie because I look a little different. But I'm not scary. I just want to make friends."

Lily felt bad. She knew what it was like to be judged. "I'm sorry, Zimbly. I'm Lily. Want to share my orange?"

Zimbly's face lit up. "I've never had an orange before!"

Lily handed over the bright orange slice. Zimbly took a tiny bite and his whole body started to glow! "It's magical!" he cheered, doing a happy splash dance.

That night, Lily and Zimbly became best friends. They discovered that Zimbly could make the pool water turn into any color just by eating different fruits. Red apples made it red, yellow bananas made it yellow, and oranges made it shine like liquid sunshine.

"Being different isn't bad," Zimbly said, making the pool glow with orange magic. "It just means you're special in your own way."

Lily smiled. She had learned something wonderful that day: sometimes the scariest-looking creatures can become the best friends, if you just give them a chance.

And every summer evening, Lily would visit the pool with oranges for Zimbly, creating the most beautiful magical light shows that could be seen all the way to the stars.
