The Zombie Who Loved Oranges
Lily loved exploring her grandmother's magical garden. The most amazing thing there was an enormous palm tree that seemed to touch the sky. Every afternoon, Lily would sit beneath its leaves and dream of adventures.
One day, she heard a sad moaning sound coming from behind the palm tree. Being brave and curious, Lily peeked around the trunk and gasped. A strange green creature was shuffling near the orange grove. Its skin was patchy, its movements were slow and creaky, and it looked exactly like a zombie from her brother's storybooks.
Lily almost ran away, but then she noticed something—the zombie wasn't scary. It was crying, and its tears made little orange puddles on the ground. The creature was reaching toward an orange that had fallen from the tree, but its stiff fingers couldn't pick it up.
"Are you okay?" Lily asked, stepping out from behind the palm tree.
The zombie looked up with surprised eyes. "I... I just wanted an orange," it said in a creaky voice. "They smell so wonderful."
Lily's fear melted away. She picked up the orange and handed it to the creature. "I'm Lily. What's your name?"
"I'm Zimby," the zombie said, carefully holding the orange like it was a precious treasure. "I was cursed by a grumpy wizard. Everyone runs away from me because they think I'm scary."
"You're not scary at all," Lily said firmly. "You're just lonely."
Zimby's face lit up with a crooked smile. For the first time in years, someone saw him, not a monster. That day, they shared five oranges and talked for hours. Zimby told funny stories about his adventures, and Lily promised to visit him every day.
The next week, Lily brought all her friends to meet Zimby. At first, they were scared, but after watching him juggle three oranges while making silly faces, everyone was laughing.
Sometimes, the things that seem scary are just misunderstood. Zimby became the most popular friend in the garden, teaching children that true friendship comes from the heart, not from how someone looks. And every afternoon, you could find them all sitting beneath the palm tree, sharing oranges and magical stories.
