The Zombie Who Loved Orange Dreams

Lily was running through the magical forest, her bare feet pattering against the soft moss. The afternoon sun painted everything in golden light, making the leaves shimmer like tiny stars. She was on her most important adventure yet—finding the legendary Wishing Well.

Beside the crystal-clear water of a babbling brook, she saw something peculiar. A small figure with greenish skin and tattered clothes sat beneath a swaying palm tree. Lily gasped. It was a zombie! But this zombie wasn't scary like in the stories. He was crying, and his tears fell into the water, creating ripples that sparkled like diamonds.

"Hello?" Lily said softly, approaching slowly. "Are you okay?"

The zombie looked up with sad, button-like eyes. "Nobody wants to play with me because I look different. I just want a friend."

Lily's heart felt warm. She reached into her pocket and pulled out a perfect orange from her mother's garden. "Would you like an orange? It's sweet and juicy, just like friendship should be."

The zombie's eyes widened. He'd never seen such a bright, beautiful fruit. When he took it, his fingers brushed against Lily's hand, and something magical happened. His greenish skin began to glow with a warm orange light. The tattered clothes transformed into a splendid costume made of palm leaves sewn together with golden thread.

"I'm Zane," he said, his voice no longer raspy but musical like wind chimes. "And you've broken the curse of loneliness!"

The Wishing Well appeared before them, its water reflecting not just their faces but their hearts. Lily learned that day that true friendship sees beyond appearances—that sometimes the scariest-looking creatures just need someone to share an orange and a kind word.

From that day on, Lily and Zane were best friends, running through the magical forest together, having new adventures every day, and always remembering that kindness is the most powerful magic of all.
