The Zombie Who Loved Orange Day

Lily was running through the golden meadow, her bare toes sinking into the warm grass. The sun painted everything in shades of honey and lemon. It was the most beautiful day of summer.

Suddenly, she saw him. A small figure shuffling near the old oak tree. He had green skin, patchy clothes, and moved with a funny wobble. A zombie! But this zombie didn't look scary at all. He looked… lonely.

Lily's dog, Barnaby, a fluffy golden retriever with one ear that stood up and one that flopped down, trotted over to investigate. Instead of barking, Barnaby wagged his tail so hard his whole body wiggled.

The zombie's face lit up. He reached into his pocket and pulled out something bright and round. An orange! He held it out to Barnaby like a precious treasure.

"That's my orange," said a voice behind Lily. It was Maya, her best friend. "I dropped it earlier. But I think your new friend found it."

The zombie smiled shyly. He didn't want brains. He wanted to help! He pointed at the orange, then at Maya, then did a little happy dance.

"His name should be Ziggy," Lily said. "The zombie who loves orange day!"

Maya laughed, and soon all three friends — Lily, Maya, and Ziggy — were running together through the meadow. Barnaby barked joyfully, chasing butterflies. Ziggy showed them his secret talent: he could make flowers grow just by smiling at them.

"Sometimes," Lily said softly, watching a cluster of daisies bloom under Ziggy's feet, "things that seem scary are just lonely. They just need a friend."

And so every orange day after that, when the sun turned everything gold and warm, Lily, Maya, Barnaby, and Ziggy would meet in the meadow. They'd run and play and share oranges, because the best magic of all isn't about spells or monsters. It's about kindness, friendship, and never being afraid to say hello to someone who looks different from you.

Even if they happen to be a zombie.
