The Zombie Who Loved Magic

In the land of Whispering Woods, where stars sometimes blinked hello, lived a little zombie named Zilly. Zilly wasn't like other zombies—she didn't want to moan or shuffle around looking for brains. Instead, she loved painting flowers and singing songs to the moon. But the other zombies laughed at her. "Zombies don't create!" they'd say, shaking their greenish heads. Zilly felt lonely, but she kept painting secret pictures in her cave.

One rainy afternoon, lightning flashed across the sky in a brilliant zigzag of purple and gold. Zilly watched from her cave entrance as something magical happened. The lightning struck a nearby pond, and suddenly, a small goldfish began to glow! The fish floated up from the water, surrounded by tiny sparkles.

"Hello!" said the goldfish, whose name was Finnegan. "The lightning gave me the gift of speech and flight! Now I can explore the whole world!" Zilly's eyes widened. Finnegan was the most wonderful thing she'd ever seen.

"I'm Zilly," she whispered. "I'm a zombie, but I don't want to be scary. I want to make beautiful things."

Finnegan did a happy flip in the air. "Then you need magic spinach! It grows only on the tallest mountain, touched by starlight. One leaf can make anything you imagine come true!"

Zilly had never heard of magic spinach, but her heart jumped with hope. "Will you help me find it?"

"Of course!" Finnegan bubbled. "That's what friends do!"

Together they climbed the mountain—Zilly's bouncy feet and Finnegan's glowing light guiding them through clouds. At the top, under shooting stars, they found a patch of shimmering green leaves. Zilly ate one spinach leaf, and suddenly, her paintbrush began moving on its own! Beautiful birds and rainbows flowed from her brush, filling the sky with color.

"Look!" cried Finnegan. "You're making magic!"

The other zombies saw the beautiful paintings and stopped being scary. They started creating too—music, dancing, stories. Zilly and Finnegan had taught everyone that being different was actually being magical.

And every night, when lightning painted the sky, Zilly and Finnegan would paint alongside it, creating wonder wherever they went, because the best magic comes from being yourself and having friends who believe in you.
