The Zombie Who Loved Lightning
Leo loved his zombie doll, Zombert, even though Zombert's green skin was patchy and his one button eye kept falling out. Every night, Leo tucked Zombert into bed beside him.
One stormy evening, while lightning flashed across the sky like giant sparkles, something magical happened. A bolt of lightning struck the old oak tree outside Leo's window, and Zombert began to wiggle!
"Hello, friend!" Zombert said, his voice squeaky like a rusty door. "Thank you for taking care of me. But I need your help."
Leo's eyes grew wide. "You're alive!"
"The lightning gave me magic for one hour," Zombert explained. "I need to return to the Toy Box Kingdom before midnight, or I'll become a plastic doll forever. But the bridge to my kingdom broke."
Leo grabbed his thick jump rope cable from the closet. "We can use this!"
Together, they tiptoed downstairs and into the backyard. The rain had stopped, but stars twinkled above like tiny nightlights. Where the magical bridge should have been, there was only a wide gap of darkness.
"I can't jump that far," Zombert said sadly.
Leo tied his cable to a sturdy branch and swung it across the gap. "Hold on tight!"
But Zombert was too light. The cable sagged. Leo knew what he had to do. He climbed onto the cable too, holding Zombert's hand.
"Trust me!" Leo said.
They swung across together, Leo's strong arms pulling them along the cable. When they reached the other side, a beautiful glowing kingdom appeared.
"Thank you, Leo," Zombert said, hugging him. "You were brave even when you were scared. That's the best kind of courage."
As the clock struck midnight, Zombert became a doll again. But Leo smiled, knowing his friend was happy in the Toy Box Kingdom. Sometimes, the best adventures happen when you least expect them—especially during a lightning storm with a friend who needs your help.
