The Zombie Who Loved Hugs

Luna was a fluffy black cat with bright green eyes. Barnaby was a golden retriever with a tail that never stopped wagging. They were the best of friends who lived in a cozy house at the end of Maple Street.

One afternoon, Luna and Barnaby were playing in the attic when they found something peculiar. Behind an old trunk, a thick black cable snaked across the floorboards. Luna's ears perked up. Where did it lead?

Barnaby nudged her with his wet nose. Follow me!

They crawled along, the cable winding through boxes of dusty toys and forgotten treasures. At last, they reached a small television set — and that's when the magic happened.

On the screen, a cartoon zombie shuffled along, looking sad and lonely. He had green skin and stitches, but his eyes were gentle.

"Hello?" Luna meowed softly.

The zombie stopped. He could hear them!

"I'm Zed," the zombie said, his voice crackling through the speakers. "I've been stuck in this old movie for twenty years. Everyone runs away from me because I'm a zombie. But I promise I'm friendly! I just want someone to play with."

Luna and Barnaby looked at each other. Barnaby gave a happy bark and pressed his nose against the screen. Luna purred loudly.

"We don't care what you look like," Luna meowed. "Friends come in all shapes and sizes!"

Every day after school, the children who lived in the house would find Luna and Barnaby watching the old television. The cat and dog would meow and bark at the screen, talking to their new friend.

Then something magical happened. One evening, as the sun set and the room glowed golden, Zed stepped right out of the television! He was still green and stitched, but he smiled and gave Luna and Barnaby the biggest, gentlest hug.

"Thank you for seeing me, not just what I am," Zed whispered.

And so, the cat, the dog, and the zombie became the most unlikely but wonderful friends. They learned that the best friendships are the ones that surprise us, and that kindness is the strongest magic of all.

Now, if you ever see a cat, a dog, and a green zombie playing together in someone's backyard, wave hello. They're probably on another wonderful adventure — and they always have room for one more friend.
