The Zombie Who Loved Green Things

Lily was running through her garden on a warm Saturday afternoon, playing tag with the butterflies. She loved how her feet felt轻 on the soft grass, how the wind tickled her cheeks. But something strange caught her eye near the vegetable patch.

A small figure was shambling between the tomato plants. It was greenish-gray, with stitching across its forehead and one button eye. A zombie! But this zombie wasn't scary at all – it was carefully examining Lily's spinach plants, sniffing the leaves with genuine curiosity.

"Hello?" Lily called out bravely.

The zombie jumped. "Oh! I didn't see you there. I'm Zephyr, and I think your spinach is magnificent!" His voice sounded like crunchy autumn leaves.

Lily giggled. "You like spinach?"

"Love it!" Zephyr said enthusiastically. "Where I come from – the Magical Garden of Midnight – everything is gray and dull. But here, everything is so ALIVE and colorful." He gestured at the vibrant greens, reds, and yellows of Lily's garden.

That's when Lily noticed something sad about Zephyr. His skin was dried and cracked, like old clay. "You need water!"

"We don't have water in my garden," Zephyr said wistfully. "I've never been swimming."

Lily's eyes widened. "Never? Come on!" She grabbed his hand – which was surprisingly soft – and led him to her backyard pond.

For the next hour, they went swimming together. Zephyr floated on his back, laughing as tiny fish nibbled his toes. The water turned his grayish skin a beautiful shade of teal. But as the sun began to set, Zephyr grew paler again.

"I have to go back soon," he said sadly. "The Midnight Garden calls me home."

Lily had an idea. She ran to her kitchen and returned with a bundle of fresh spinach. "Take this! Plant it in your garden. With enough care, maybe it will grow and bring some life to your world."

Zephyr's single button eye sparkled. "Thank you, Lily. You've shown me that friendship is the most magical thing of all."

As he disappeared into the gathering twilight, Lily waved goodbye, already planning her next adventure to the Magical Garden of Midnight. Sometimes, she discovered, the most wonderful friends come from the most unexpected places – even if they're zombies who love spinach.
