The Zombie Who Loved Green Things
Zed was not like other zombies. While his friends stumbled around looking for brains, Zed loved gardening. His tiny graveyard plot was filled with flowers, vegetables, and his very favorite—spinach.
One stormy evening, as lightning flashed across the purple sky, Zed noticed something amazing. A bolt of lightning had struck his spinach patch! But instead of burning the plants, the spinach began to glow with a soft green light. When Zed nibbled a leaf, he felt energy rush through his gray body. Suddenly, he could run and jump and even smile—a real smile, not a zombie grin!
"I must share this!" Zed thought. But the bridge to the village had been washed away by the storm. All that remained was a thick steel cable swaying high above the rushing river below.
Zed's knees wobbled. Zombies were not known for their balance. But he thought of all the grumpy, tired children in the village who needed magical spinach energy too. He took a deep breath, grabbed the cable, and began to inch across.
His arms shook. His legs trembled. But Zed kept going, one hand at a time, thinking about how wonderful it would be to help everyone feel strong and happy.
When he finally reached the other side, the children were amazed. They had never seen a zombie before, let alone one carrying glowing spinach! Zed shared his magical leaves, and soon the whole village was dancing and playing.
From that day on, Zed visited every week, bringing his special lightning-spinach. The children learned that even those who seem different can be wonderful friends—and that sometimes the scariest challenges help us discover our greatest strengths.
And Zed? He finally found what every zombie secretly wants: not brains, but belonging.
