The Zombie Who Loved Green Things
In the sleepy town of Willowbrook, something peculiar happened every full moon. People would see a figure shambling near the old community garden. "It's a zombie!" the townspeople would whisper, but nobody had ever gotten close enough to see for sure.
Ten-year-old Leo was curious. One Tuesday evening, he decided to investigate. He crept through the tall grass until he found the source of the mysterious sounds.
To his surprise, the zombie wasn't scary at all. In fact, the green-skinned fellow was carefully tending to a small garden patch, gently patting soil around tiny plants with his palm.
"Spinach," the zombie mumbled happily, pointing at the green shoots. "My favorite."
Leo stepped forward, and the zombie jumped.
"I'm Leo," the boy said bravely. "What's your name?"
"Zim," the zombie replied. "I love growing things. But people always run away when they see me."
"That's because they're scared," Leo said. "But you're just a gardener!"
Every night after that, Leo visited Zim. He learned that Zim had once been a regular person who loved vegetables so much that magic transformed him into someone who could make any plant grow with just one touch of his palm.
One day, the mayor announced the community garden would be destroyed to make room for a parking lot. Leo was heartbroken.
"I have an idea," Zim said, his eyes twinkling.
That night, Zim and Leo worked together in the moonlight. Zim touched every seed with his palm, and Leo planted them all over town — in empty lots, beside sidewalks, even in the mayor's own front yard.
By morning, beautiful green spinach plants had sprouted everywhere! The townspeople woke up to find their neighborhood transformed into a garden paradise.
"Who did this?" the mayor wondered.
Leo saw Zim hiding behind a tree, too shy to come forward.
"Sometimes," Leo said, "the most surprising friends can do the most wonderful things."
From that day on, nobody ran away from Zim anymore. Instead, they brought him their wilting plants, and with one gentle touch of his palm, he made them bloom again.
And that's how the zombie who loved green things taught the town of Willowbrook that you should never judge someone by how they look — even if they happen to be green and love spinach more than anything in the world.
