The Zombie Who Loved Green

Lily loved her backyard garden, especially near the old stone well where she grew magical vegetables. Every evening, she sprinkled water on her plants and whispered secrets to them.

One day, something strange happened. Lily's toy zombie, Mr. Greenbean, started moving! He wasn't scary at all – he just wobbled around with a goofy grin, looking for something.

"Are you hungry?" Lily asked, giggling as Mr. Greenbean did a silly little dance.

The zombie nodded his plastic head enthusiastically and pointed at Lily's spinach patch.

"Spinach?" Lily laughed. "But that's my favorite vegetable!" She picked a bright green leaf and held it out.

Mr. Greenbean took the spinach and – ZAP! – his gray plastic skin turned a beautiful leafy green. He spun around happily, sprinkling water from the well on all the other vegetables. The tomatoes glowed redder, the corn stretched taller, and the spinach sparkled like emeralds.

"You're not a zombie anymore," Lily realized. "You're a garden guardian!"

Every night after that, Mr. Greenbean (now Mr. Greenleaf) danced through the garden, making sure every plant had enough water and love. And every morning, Lily discovered the most delicious, magical vegetables anyone had ever tasted.

The other children asked how she grew such wonderful food. Lily just winked and said, "It helps when you have a friend who believes that even the scariest-looking things can become something beautiful with a little kindness and some spinach."
