The Zombie Who Loved Goldfish
Lily's backyard pool was her favorite place in the whole world. Every summer day, she splashed and played until her toes wrinkled like prunes.
One hot afternoon, Lily noticed something strange. Her plastic pyramid pool toy, usually bright yellow, had turned a spooky green. And floating beside it was the most unusual thing - a zombie!
But this wasn't a scary zombie. He had green skin and messy hair, but his eyes were kind and he wore a colorful swim ring around his waist.
"Hello," said the zombie. "I'm Zed."
Lily wasn't scared. "I'm Lily. What are you doing in my pool?"
Zed looked sad. "I'm looking for my friend - a little goldfish named Goldie. We lived in a magical pyramid in Egypt, but one day Goldie got lost. I've been searching everywhere."
Lily's eyes widened. "I have a goldfish! His name is Orangey. But he lives in a bowl in my room."
Zed's face lit up. "May I see him? Maybe he knows where Goldie is."
Lily led Zed to her room, where Orangey swam happily in his glass bowl. When Zed peeked in, something amazing happened. Orangey turned bright gold and began to speak!
"Zed! You found me!" Goldie exclaimed. "I was transformed and forgot who I was."
Zed did a happy dance. "Now we can go home to our pyramid!"
But Goldie shook his head. "Lily took such good care of me. And Zed, look - you made a friend too."
Zed looked at Lily and smiled. "You're right. Being a friend is what matters most."
And so, Lily learned that sometimes the most unexpected creatures can become the best friends. Every summer after that, Zed and Goldie visited her pool, where they built pyramid forts and had the most wonderful adventures.
Lily realized that friendship isn't about where you come from or what you look like - it's about kindness, loyalty, and caring for each other. And that's the greatest magic of all.
