The Zombie Who Loved Goldfish

Leo loved his lucky red baseball hat more than anything. He wore it everywhere — to school, to dinner, even to bed. But today, something magical happened.

Leo was playing catch in his backyard when the ball sailed over the fence. He chased it to the mysterious alley behind his house, where an old palm tree stretched its leaves toward the sky. Something moved beneath the fronds.

"Rrrr..." came a rumbling voice.

Leo gasped. A green creature shuffled out — a zombie!

"Don't be scared," the zombie said softly. "I'm Zed. I just wanted to watch you play. I used to love baseball."

Zed looked sad. Leo noticed something sparkling in Zed's hand — a tiny glass bowl with a goldfish swimming inside.

"That's Goldie," Zed said. "My only friend. Everyone runs away when they see me, but Goldie doesn't mind that I'm different."

Leo's heart warmed. He remembered how lonely he felt before he made friends on his baseball team.

"Want to play catch?" Leo asked, holding out his baseball. "And Goldie can cheer us on!"

Zed's eyes lit up. "Really?"

They played until the sun set, laughing as Zed discovered he could throw faster than any human. When it was time to go, Leo took off his lucky red hat.

"Here," Leo said. "Now you're part of the team too."

Zed placed the hat on his green head, grinning. "Thank you, Leo. You taught me something important — true friends don't run away. They stay and play catch."

And that's how Leo learned that the best friendships sometimes come from the most unexpected places. Even if your new best friend happens to be a zombie who keeps a goldfish in his pocket.
