The Zombie Who Loved Flowers

Barnaby was a golden dog with a tail that never stopped wagging. His best friend was Luna, a silvery cat with eyes like yellow moons. Every night, when the house grew quiet, they would sneak out to explore their neighborhood.

Behind their house stood an old cable car that hadn't moved in years. Its thick steel cable stretched up the hill and disappeared into the mist. Barnaby and Luna often wondered where it went.

One full-moon night, they heard a strange sound. Creak. Groan. Shuffle.

Barnaby's ears perked up. Luna's whiskers twitched. Together, they crept toward the cable car station.

There, in the moonlight, they saw something amazing—and a little scary. A green figure walked with stiff, jerky movements. Its arms hung loose, and it moaned softly.

"A zombie!" Luna whispered, her eyes wide.

But this zombie didn't want to eat brains. It was carefully planting sunflowers along the cable car tracks!

The zombie looked up and saw them. Instead of chasing them, it smiled a crooked smile and patted the dirt around a yellow flower. Then it pointed at the cable car.

Barnaby and Luna watched as the zombie pulled a lever. The old cable car gave a shudder, then began to move. It climbed the hill, shining with magic.

"He's fixing it!" Luna realized.

The zombie wasn't scary at all. He was Mr. Higgins, the lonely old man from up the hill who loved flowers but worked at night because he was shy.

The next morning, the whole town rode the newly fixed cable car. And along the tracks? Beautiful sunflowers waved in the breeze.

Barnaby and Luna learned something wonderful that night: Sometimes the things that seem scary are actually magical. And sometimes, a zombie just wants to make the world more beautiful.

That night, from their window, the dog and cat watched Mr. Higgins plant more flowers under the stars. The cable car twinkled above them, and everything was perfect.
