The Zombie Who Loved Coconuts

Lily lived on a sunny island where palm trees danced in the wind. She loved climbing the tallest palm tree to watch the ocean sparkle. But Lily was lonely. She wished for a friend who liked adventures as much as she did.

One moonlit night, Lily heard a crunching sound. She peeked outside and saw something green and shuffling near her favorite palm tree. It looked like a zombie! Lily had heard stories about zombies—scary creatures who walked slowly and said "brains." But this zombie was different. It was wearing flower leis and holding a coconut.

"Are you going to eat brains?" Lily called out bravely.

The zombie looked up. Its face was painted like a friendly mask. "No brains!" it said in a raspy voice. "Just coconuts. Do you like coconut cookies?"

Lily gasped. The zombie wasn't scary at all! "I LOVE coconut cookies!"

"My name is Zee," the zombie said. "I'm magic. I come alive when children are lonely, and I go back to being a toy when they find true friends."

Lily's eyes widened. "You're a TOY?"

Zee nodded. "Look in your toy chest."

Lily ran inside and found a small zombie doll she had forgotten. When she returned, Zee was still waiting by the palm tree, offering her a coconut.

"Will you be my friend?" Lily asked. "Forever, not just when I'm lonely?"

"Yes!" Zee cheered. "But I have one rule. We must always share our coconuts with anyone who needs them. That's how friends stay friends forever."

Lily smiled, holding Zee's green hand. From that day on, she and Zee had magical adventures. They climbed palm trees, built sandcastles, and shared coconut cookies with everyone on the island. The villagers stopped being afraid of the friendly zombie who danced in the moonlight.

And Lily learned that sometimes, the scariest-looking things can turn out to be the best friends—if you're brave enough to say hello.
