The Zombie Who Loved Baseball
Leo loved baseball more than anything. Every afternoon, he'd grab his glove and run to the park behind his house, where the great palm tree stood like a friendly giant with frond-fingers waving in the breeze.
One especially hot afternoon, Leo was practicing his pitching when he heard a strange sound. Clunk. Clunk. Clunk. From behind the old stone fountain emerged the most unusual creature Leo had ever seen. It was a zombie—but not a scary one. This zombie had bright blue skin, wore a sparkly baseball cap, and moved with a cheerful, bouncy step.
"Baseball?" the zombie asked, its voice sounding like autumn leaves crunching happily.
Leo's eyes widened. "You like baseball?"
The zombie nodded enthusiastically. "I am Zim. In my world, we play baseball inside pyramids made of crystal. But I got lost, and now I cannot find my way home."
Leo's heart went out to Zim. He looked lonely. "I'll help you! But first, do you want to play catch?"
Zim's face lit up like a firefly. They played until the sun began to set, painting the sky orange and pink. Zim was surprisingly good—his blue arms could stretch and bend in amazing ways!
As they rested under the palm tree, Leo noticed something shimmering in Zim's pocket. It was a small crystal pyramid.
"That's my key!" Zim exclaimed. "It only works when shared with a true friend."
Leo placed his hand on the pyramid too. Suddenly, they weren't in the park anymore. They stood inside a magnificent crystal pyramid, where baseballs floated like bubbles and the air smelled like cotton candy.
"Welcome to my world!" Zim cheered. "You saved me, Leo. Friendship is the real magic—not just the crystal pyramid."
They played the most magical baseball game ever, with baseballs that changed colors and bases that glowed. When it was time for Leo to go home, Zim gave him a tiny crystal pyramid.
"Visit anytime," Zim said. "Real friends can never be separated by worlds."
Leo walked home under the palm trees, clutching his crystal pyramid. He'd discovered something wonderful: sometimes the best friends come from the most unexpected places, and kindness is the strongest magic of all.
