The Zombie Who Loved Baseball

baseballdogzombie

Tommy loved baseball more than anything. Every afternoon, he and his golden retriever Max would play catch in the park. Max was the best dog ever—he could catch a baseball in his mouth and run faster than the wind.

One foggy evening, Tommy hit his baseball too hard. It flew over the fence and into the old, spooky graveyard. Max whimpered, scared to go near it.

"Stay here, buddy," Tommy said bravely. "I'll be right back."

As Tommy crept between the tombstones, he heard a groan. A figure shuffled out from behind a tree—a zombie! Tommy almost screamed, but then he noticed something strange. The zombie was holding Tommy's baseball.

"You... you play?" the zombie mumbled.

Tommy nodded slowly. The zombie's green face lit up with a smile. He threw the ball back—perfectly! Tommy caught it, amazed.

"I'm Zed," the zombie said shyly. "I used to play baseball when I was alive. Can I... can I play with you?"

Tommy looked at Zed's sad eyes. Sometimes things that seem scary just need a friend. "Sure! My dog Max would love to meet you."

Max's tail thumped happily when he saw Zed. The zombie laughed, a warm sound that echoed in the graveyard. They played until sunset—Max chasing the ball, Zed teaching Tommy his old pitching tricks, and Tommy learning that the best friends come from unexpected places.

Every day after school, Tommy and Max visited Zed. The other kids in town thought the graveyard was haunted, but Tommy knew the truth. It was where his best friend lived, and where the best baseball games happened.

Moral: Don't judge others by how they look. Sometimes the scariest-looking people just want someone to play with.
