The Zombie Who Loved Baseball

Lily loved summer evenings, especially when her golden retriever Buster bounced beside her, ready for adventure. They were playing catch in the backyard when something peculiar happened. Lily's dad's old iphone, sitting on the porch table, suddenly began to glow with a mysterious green light.

Curious, Lily picked it up. The screen showed a strange app she'd never seen before—"ZUM-BEE BASEBALL." Before she could wonder what it meant, a swirl of sparkly mist erupted from the phone!

Out tumbled a green figure. Buster gave a friendly woof and wagged his tail. It was a zombie! But not a scary one. This zombie wore a faded baseball cap and held a dusty mitt.

"Hello!" said the zombie, whose name was Zed. "I've been waiting inside that phone for someone to love baseball as much as I do. May I play?"

Lily's eyes widened with delight. "Yes! But... can you even catch?"

Zed chuckled. "I may be a zombie, but I never forgot how to play."

What followed was the most magical game of catch Lily had ever experienced. Zed moved with surprising grace, his green hands snagging every ball Buster and Lily threw. Even better, Zed taught them silly zombie cheers and invented the most creative game ever called "Monster Ball." The three new friends played until the stars appeared, laughing and running across the grassy field.

When it was time for Zed to return to the phone, he hugged Lily and patted Buster's head. "Thank you for reminding me what fun feels like. Sometimes the best friends come from the most unexpected places."

Lily waved as Zed dissolved into sparkles. That night, she fell asleep knowing that friendship, magic, and a love for baseball could bring anyone together—even a girl, her dog, and a zombie who just wanted to play catch.
