The Zombie Who Loved Baseball
Lily and Max loved summer evenings in their backyard. Tonight, they were playing baseball under the golden sunset, hitting the ball higher and higher until—SPLASH! The ball landed right in the middle of their swimming pool.
"I'll get it!" said Max, diving into the cool blue water. But when he reached the bottom of the pool, something magical happened. The water began to sparkle like tiny stars.
Suddenly, a greenish figure bubbled up from the depths. It looked like a zombie, but not a scary one—a friendly zombie with seaweed hair and a big smile!
"Hello there!" the zombie said, holding the baseball. "I'm Zed, and I've been waiting for someone to play with for three hundred years!"
Lily and Max weren't scared. Zed wasn't like the zombies in movies—he was bouncy and fun, and he did a happy dance when he handed back the baseball.
"Do you know how to play?" asked Max.
"Show me!" Zed cheered.
They played baseball together until the moon rose high. Zed was terrible at first—he kept tripping over his own feet and swinging at nothing. But Lily and Max taught him how to hold the bat, how to swing, and how to catch.
"Friendship makes everything better," Zed said, hitting his first home run into the pool. "Even zombies need friends."
As dawn approached, Zed had to return to his underwater home. "Come back tomorrow!" he called, disappearing beneath the shimmering water.
Every day after school, Lily and Max rushed home for baseball with Zed. They learned something wonderful: sometimes the most unexpected friendships are the best ones, and magic happens when you include everyone in your game.
And somewhere, deep in the magical pool water, Zed practiced his swing, dreaming of the next game with his best friends.
