The Zombie Who Loved Baseball
Zombolina was not like other zombies. Instead of groaning and shuffling, she loved to run and jump and play. But the other children would scream and run away whenever she came near, frightened by her green skin and tattered dress.
Every afternoon, Zombolina would sit beneath the swaying palm tree at the edge of the playground, watching the children play baseball. Her wild purple hair danced in the breeze as she cheered silently from her spot, dreaming of joining their game.
One stormy afternoon, just as lightning began to flash across the dark sky, a baseball came flying over the fence and landed right in Zombolina's palm. She looked up to see a young boy named Leo peeking through the fence.
"That's my favorite ball," Leo said, surprisingly not running away. "Could you please throw it back?"
Zombolina's heart soared. She tossed the ball gently, and Leo caught it with a smile. But then, CRACK! A bolt of lightning struck the palm tree above them. The magical energy flowed through Zombolina's hair, making it glow bright purple.
"Whoa!" Leo gasped. "That's amazing! Can you do that again?"
"Only when I'm happy," Zombolina said softly.
Leo grinned. "Then you'll love this — want to play baseball with us?"
For the first time ever, Zombolina stepped onto the field. Her purple hair glowed with joy as she ran and played. The children discovered that Zombolina wasn't scary at all — she was kind, fun, and an amazing teammate.
And from that day on, Zombolina never had to sit alone under the palm tree again. She had found something better than magic lightning or glowing hair. She had found friends who saw her heart, not her appearance.
Because sometimes, the scariest-looking creatures can have the kindest souls, and friendship is the most powerful magic of all.
