The Zombie Who Loved Baseball
Tommy loved his blue baseball cap more than anything. He wore it everywhere—even to breakfast, where his cat Whiskers would try to bat it off his head. The cap made Tommy feel brave, like a superhero ready for adventure.
One afternoon, while practicing baseball in his backyard, Tommy hit the ball so hard it sailed over the fence into the spooky old forest. His mom had always said not to go there, but he couldn't lose his favorite baseball!
Bravely, Tommy crept through the trees. The leaves crunching beneath his sneakers sounded like potato chips. Suddenly, he heard a groan. "Raaaaaggghhh..."
Tommy's heart thumped. A zombie stumbled out from behind an oak tree! But this zombie looked different. Instead of wanting brains, he was holding a old, dusty baseball glove.
"I... used... to... play," the zombie said slowly. His green skin crinkled into a sad smile. "Before... I became... a zombie."
Tommy's fear melted away. This wasn't a scary zombie—this was a lonely baseball player!
"Do you want to play catch?" Tommy asked, holding up his baseball.
The zombie's eyes lit up. "Yes! But first..." He pointed to Tommy's head. "Your hat... it's magic. I can feel it."
Tommy smiled and placed his blue cap on the zombie's green head. Instantly, the zombie's skin turned a healthy pink! His ragged clothes transformed into a clean baseball uniform. He wasn't a zombie anymore—he was a regular kid named Max!
"Your hat shared its bravery with me," Max said happily. "Now I'm free from the zombie curse that made me lonely for fifty years!"
Together, Tommy and Max played baseball until sunset. Whiskers even joined in, chasing the ball and Max laughed so hard his stomach hurt.
"Friendship is the strongest magic," Max said, handing Tommy his cap back. "Thank you for not being afraid."
That night, Tommy learned something important: sometimes the scariest things just need a friend—and a little bit of magic from a favorite hat.
