The Zombie Who Loved Baseball
Leo loved baseball more than anything. Every day after school, he'd grab his glove and run to the park. But today, something strange happened.
A thick cable snaked across the baseball field, twisting around home plate. Leo followed it with his eyes, past the swings, all the way to the old oak tree where someone was sitting.
It was a zombie! But not a scary one. This zombie wore a colorful shirt and held a racquet.
"Hello there!" the zombie called out. "I'm Zara. Would you like to learn padel?"
Leo had never heard of padel before. Zara showed him—it was like tennis, but played in a special court with walls. The ball could bounce off them, making the game extra exciting!
"I'm supposed to be practicing baseball," Leo said sadly.
"Why not do both?" Zara's green eyes twinkled. "The cable connects our worlds. Baseball and padel aren't so different. Both require quick feet, good eyes, and a kind heart."
Leo's eyes widened. "You mean..."
"Exactly! Want to see something magical?" Zara hit her padel ball toward the cable. Instead of getting stuck, the ball glided along it like a train on tracks, then transformed into a baseball!
Leo gasped. "That's amazing!"
"Magic happens when you try new things," Zara said. "Every friend you make, every game you learn—they're all connected, like this cable."
They played together all afternoon. Leo taught Zara how to swing a bat, and Zara taught Leo how to use the padel court walls.
When Leo's mom called him for dinner, he waved goodbye to his new friend.
"Same time tomorrow?" Zara asked.
"You bet!" Leo grinned.
That night, Leo dreamed of baseballs that glowed like padel balls and cables that connected friends everywhere. He'd learned something wonderful: sometimes the best adventures come from the most unexpected friendships, and trying new things can make your favorite things even better.
