The Zombie Who Loved Baseball
Lily loved being a spy. Every Saturday, she hid behind the big palm tree at the edge of the park, watching the older kids play baseball. She dreamed of joining their game, but she was too small.
One hot afternoon, the palm tree's cool shade felt wonderful. Lily pressed her palm against the rough bark and closed her eyes. That's when she heard it—a groan from behind the bushes.
She peeked through the leaves. There, shuffling near the water fountain, was a greenish figure with messy hair and tattered clothes. A zombie!
Lily's heart raced. But then she noticed something—this zombie wasn't scary. He was holding a baseball glove, watching the game just like her.
"Are you... friendly?" Lily whispered.
The zombie nodded sadly. "I'm Zed. Everyone runs away when they see me. But I just love baseball."
Lily smiled. "I'm Lily. I love baseball too! Want to play catch?"
Zed's eyes lit up. They found a baseball near the water fountain and started tossing it back and forth. Zed was amazing! His long arms helped him catch everything.
Soon, the older kids noticed. "Hey! Who's your friend?" called Jake, the team captain.
"This is Zed," Lily said proudly. "He's a great player!"
Jake studied Zed, then grinned. "We need a player for our team. Want to join?"
Zed's smile stretched from ear to ear. The game was magical. Zed hit home runs, caught impossible catches, and his teammates cheered. No one cared that he looked different—they only cared that he was kind, talented, and loved the game.
That evening, sitting by the palm tree with her new friend, Lily learned an important lesson: sometimes the scariest-looking people are the most wonderful friends. And that the best adventures happen when you're brave enough to say hello.
