The Zombie Who Loved Baseball

Emma loved baseball more than anything. Every day after school, she'd grab her glove and run to the park, dreaming of hitting the perfect home run. But Emma had a secret—she was the smallest kid on her team, and sometimes she felt too weak to swing hard.

One afternoon, while sitting in the dugout, Emma noticed something strange. A zombie was shuffling toward the field! But this wasn't a scary zombie like in movies. He wore a faded baseball jersey and carried a dusty glove.

"Hi," said Emma bravely. "I'm Emma. What's your name?"

The zombie smiled crookedly. "I'm Zach. I used to play baseball here fifty years ago."

Emma couldn't believe it. A zombie baseball player!

"You seem tired," Emma noticed. Zach nodded sadly. "Zombies don't get enough vitamins. That's why we're so slow and creaky."

Emma's eyes lit up. "My mom says spinach is full of vitamins! It makes you strong!"

She rushed home and returned with a giant bowl of fresh spinach leaves. Zach took a hesitant bite, then his eyes widened. Amazingly, his gray skin turned pinker, and he stood up straighter!

"I feel amazing!" Zach exclaimed. "These spinach vitamins are magic!"

But Zach had another problem. He needed to return the magical spinach to his family in the old cemetery, but he couldn't cross the busy highway safely. Emma spotted a thick cable stretching across the road—old telephone wires that hadn't been used in years.

"You can cross on the cable!" Emma suggested.

Zach carefully shimmied across, clutching his precious spinach. When he reached the other side, he waved happily. From that day on, Emma became stronger too. She ate her spinach every morning, and soon she was hitting home runs like never before.

Sometimes, if she looked closely, Emma could see Zach and his zombie family playing baseball in the cemetery at night, all full of energy and spinach power. Emma had learned that even zombies need vitamins—and that friendship comes in all shapes, sizes, and states of being alive.
