The Zombie Who Loved Baseball
Lily and Max were playing catch in their backyard when Lily noticed something strange. A glowing orange cable lay in the grass, shimmering like liquid sunshine. It stretched all the way to the old palm tree at the edge of their property.
"Look at this!" Lily called, pulling the cable gently. To their surprise, the palm tree's trunk began to shimmer and sparkle, revealing a secret door.
Inside was a magical grove filled with more palm trees, each one glowing with different colors. And there, sitting on a mossy log, was a zombie.
But this zombie wasn't like the ones in scary movies. He wore a dusty baseball cap and held an old, worn baseball. His skin was green, but his smile was warm and friendly.
"Hi!" said the zombie. "I'm Zed. Want to play?"
Lily and Max were surprised. Zed explained that he'd been magically banished to the grove fifty years ago because people thought he was scary. But he'd only wanted to play baseball.
"I can leave if someone truly wants to be my friend," Zed said hopefully.
Lily stepped forward. "I want to be your friend, Zed."
The moment she said it, the magical cable that led to the grove began to pulse brighter. Zed's green skin turned a healthy pink, and the grove's magic swirled around them like confetti.
"Thank you," Zed whispered. "You saw past how I looked and found who I really am."
That afternoon, the three of them played the best game of baseball ever. Zed turned out to be an amazing pitcher. And whenever they needed to visit their friend, they just had to find the glowing cable near the palm tree.
Lily and Max learned that day that true friends aren't judged by how they look, but by what's in their hearts. And sometimes, the scariest-looking creatures just need someone to give them a chance.
The end.
