The Zombie Who Loved Baseball

Emma found the mysterious green bottle in her grandmother's attic. Inside were glowing orange tablets labeled 'Courage Vitamin.' Her grandmother had been a scientist who invented wonderful things!

Emma swallowed one tablet before her big baseball game. Suddenly, everything seemed brighter! She hit the ball so far it flew over the fence and into the spooky forest behind the old swimming pool.

When she went to look for it, Emma saw someone green and bumpy emerging from the water. It was a zombie! But instead of being scary, he was wearing a baseball cap and holding her ball.

"Great hit!" the zombie said, smiling with crooked teeth. "I'm Zed. I used to be a professional baseball player before I became... well, this."

Emma wasn't scared at all. Zed told her he was also a secret spy who protected the magical creatures living in the forest. "The most important thing about being a spy," he whispered, "is kindness. That's how you make real friends."

They spent the afternoon playing catch. Zed taught Emma special batting techniques while she taught him how to do cannonballs into the swimming pool. They laughed so much that other forest creatures came to watch—a talking squirrel, a dancing frog, and even a wise old owl.

"You know," Zed said as the sun began to set, "you didn't really need that courage vitamin. You were brave all along. True courage comes from your heart, not a bottle."

Emma realized Zed was right. She had been brave enough to follow her ball into the forest, brave enough to talk to someone different, and brave enough to make an unexpected friend.

"Will I see you again?" Emma asked.

Zed winked. "I'm always here. Just look for the green splash in the swimming pool at sunset. And remember—never judge someone by how they look. The best friends often come in the most surprising packages."

Emma ran home, her baseball in hand, her heart full of magic. She couldn't wait for tomorrow's adventure with her extraordinary friend. Sometimes, she thought, the most wonderful discoveries come from being brave enough to explore the unknown.
