The Zombie Who Loved Baseball

Max loved baseball more than anything in the world. Every Saturday, he could be found at the park with his lucky glove and his favorite baseball, waiting for his friends. But one foggy afternoon, when everyone else had gone home, Max heard a strange sound.

"Clunk. Clunk. Clunk."

From behind the old oak tree shuffled a green figure. Max held his breath. It was a zombie! But instead of being scary, this zombie looked sad and confused. His clothes were tattered and he moved very slowly, like he was walking through thick mud.

"Hello?" Max said bravely, clutching his baseball tight.

The zombie looked up with big, gentle eyes. "Baseball?" he asked, pointing at Max's glove with a bony finger.

Max nodded slowly. "Yes, baseball. Do you... want to play?"

The zombie's face lit up. "Baseball!" He reached into his pocket and pulled out a bright orange bottle. "Vitamin," he explained softly. "Doctor said I need sunshine vitamin. But I'm too shy to ask anyone to play outside."

Max realized this zombie wasn't scary at all — he was just lonely and needed a friend. And he needed fresh air and sunshine to feel strong again!

"I'll play with you!" Max said with a big smile. "And my grandpa says that sunshine and friendship are the best vitamins anyway."

For an hour, Max and the zombie played catch in the golden sunset light. The zombie's movements became stronger and faster with every throw. His green skin began to glow with happiness, and his sad eyes sparkled with joy.

"Thank you," the zombie said when it was time to go. "Friendship really IS better than any vitamin."

Max waved goodbye, already looking forward to next Saturday. He learned that sometimes the scariest-looking creatures just need a friend — and a game of catch — to show their true colors. And the best adventures often come from the most unexpected friendships.
