The Zombie Who Lost His Smile

Lily loved exploring the forest behind her house, especially with Barnaby, her fluffy golden dog, trotting beside her. One sunny afternoon, they discovered something strange—a creature shuffling near an old papaya tree.

The creature looked like a zombie! His skin was pale green, his clothes were tattered, and his wild hair stuck up like purple moss. But when Lily stepped closer, she saw something that made her heart ache: the zombie wasn't scary at all. He was crying.

Barnaby wagged his tail and approached cautiously. To Lily's surprise, the zombie reached down and patted the dog's head with gentle fingers.

"I've been lonely for so long," the zombie whispered. "Everyone runs away when they see me. But your dog isn't afraid."

Lily noticed something glimmering in a nearby puddle. It was a goldfish, magically swimming in the tiny pool of water.

"That's my friend," said the zombie. "A wizard cast a spell on me. I'll stay a zombie until I learn that true friends see with their hearts, not their eyes."

Lily thought carefully. She reached into her pocket and pulled out a bright orange papaya from her tree at home. She offered it to the zombie.

"Would you like some papaya? It's sweet and sunny, just like friendship."

The zombie's eyes widened. No one had ever shared anything with him before. As he took the papaya, his green skin began to glow warm and brown. His messy hair softened into flowing dark curls. The puddle suddenly expanded into a beautiful pond, and the goldfish swam happily in its new home.

The zombie was no longer a zombie at all. He was a regular boy, smiling brightly.

"Thank you," he said. "You taught me that kindness breaks every spell."

Lily smiled, knowing she had found a forever friend. And Barnaby? He just wagged his tail, because dogs always know who has a good heart.
