The Zombie Who Lost His Smile
In the heart of the Whispering Woods, where sunlight danced through emerald leaves, lived a clever little fox named Felix. Felix had the softest orange fur you could imagine, and his tail fluffed out like a golden dandelion. But today, Felix's tail drooped. His best friend Barnaby — a zombie — had lost his smile, and nothing Felix did could bring it back.
Now, you might think zombies are scary, but Barnaby was different. Sure, his skin was minty green and his hair stuck up in every direction like purple haystacks. But Barnaby was the kindest soul in the forest. He couldn't speak, but he communicated through happy dances and warm hugs. Until yesterday.
Felix had tried everything: tickling Barnaby with a feather, showing him his secret stash of shiny acorns, even doing his famous backflip routine. Nothing worked. Barnaby just shuffled along, head down, those purple haystacks of hair flopping sadly.
"What's wrong with him?" asked Luna, a fluffy black cat who lived in an old oak tree. Luna was wise beyond her years, with amber eyes that seemed to know secrets.
"I don't know," Felix sighed. "He hasn't danced in three days."
Luna thought for a moment, her whiskers twitching. "Maybe he's lonely. Zombies need friends too — not just one friend, but a whole community. Look at him, wandering alone while everyone else hides."
Felix felt a pang in his heart. Luna was right. Barnaby only had Felix, while Felix had the whole forest.
That afternoon, Felix called a meeting. All the creatures gathered — squirrels, rabbits, birds, even the grumpy badger. Felix told them about Barnaby's lost smile and asked for their help.
At first, they were nervous. But then little Pip the squirrel stepped forward. Then Willow the rabbit. Soon, all the animals surrounded Barnaby with gifts: berries, flowers, pretty stones, and hand-made drawings.
Barnaby's green face brightened. His purple hair seemed to stand up even taller. And then — it happened. His smile returned, wider than ever. He did his happy dance, spinning and twirling, all the animals clapping along.
That night, under starlight, Felix realized something wonderful: the best magic isn't tricks or treasures. The real magic is friendship — the kind that opens hearts and brings back smiles, one friend at a time.
And from that day on, Barnaby never walked alone again.
