The Zombie Who Lost His Purple Hat

Leo loved playing baseball in the park every Saturday. But today was different — today was the costume game!

"Hey everyone!" called his friend Zoe, running toward the field. She was dressed as a sparkly princess. "Look who's here!"

It was their new neighbor, a friendly zombie named Zoggy. He wasn't scary at all — he just had green skin, a friendly smile, and the messiest, wildest bright orange hair anyone had ever seen! And on top of that crazy hair sat the most beautiful purple hat with silver stars.

"Can I play too?" Zoggy asked shyly.

"Sure!" said Leo, handing him a baseball bat. "You can be on our team!"

Zoggy was so excited that he did a happy zombie dance — wiggle, wiggle, stomp, stomp! But when he swung the bat, his purple hat flew right off his orange hair and landed on top of the old telephone cable that ran above the field.

"Oh no!" cried Zoggy. "My grandmother made me that hat! It's the only thing that keeps my hair from getting tangled when I sleep!"

The hat was stuck way up high. Even when Leo jumped and Zoe climbed on his shoulders, they couldn't reach it.

Suddenly, Zoggy had an idea. "Zombies have special powers," he whispered. "When we work together, we can do amazing things!"

He closed his eyes and concentrated. Slowly, all the kids held hands and formed a circle. Zoggy's orange hair started glowing brighter and brighter!

"Lift us up!" they all shouted together.

Magically, the telephone cable began to lower itself, bringing the purple hat right into Zoggy's hands. Everyone cheered!

"That was amazing!" said Leo. "Being friends really does make us stronger!"

From that day on, Zoggy joined their baseball games every weekend. He still had the wildest orange hair and still wore his purple hat, but now he had something even better — a whole team of best friends who learned that zombies, princesses, and regular kids could all play together happily.

And sometimes, when the sun was just right, they could still see that old cable sparkle a little bit, reminding them of the day they discovered that friendship is the greatest magic of all.
