The Zombie Who Lost His Orange

Leo loved swimming in his backyard pool, especially during summer when the sun turned the water a sparkling orange-gold. But what he loved even more was the strange adventure that changed everything.

One night, Leo couldn't sleep. He crept outside to sit by the pool, and that's when he saw it—a sad-looking figure stumbling near the fence. It was a zombie! But this zombie wasn't scary. He had green skin, messy hair, and the most frightened expression Leo had ever seen.

"Please don't run!" the zombie called out in a shaky voice. "I'm not hungry for brains. I'm just lost... and I've lost something very important."

Leo stayed put. "What did you lose?"

The zombie sighed. "My magic orange. In my world, zombies each have one special orange that keeps us happy and colorful. Without it, I'm gray and lonely forever."

Leo's eyes widened. He knew about the magical tree at the edge of the woods that grew the most beautiful oranges he'd ever seen. "I think I can help!"

But there was one problem. A grumpy old bull named Buttercup guarded that tree. Nobody dared to go near her.

"She won't hurt you if you're brave and kind," Leo's grandmother had once told him.

The next morning, Leo and the zombie (whose name was Zippy) set off toward the magical tree. When Buttercup the bull spotted them, she lowered her head and snorted loudly. Zippy trembled.

"Wait!" Leo stepped forward slowly. "We're not here to steal. We just need one orange to help our friend."

To their surprise, Buttercup's gentle brown eyes softened. She stepped aside and nudged a perfect orange toward them with her nose.

"Thank you!" Zippy cried. As soon as he touched the orange, his gray skin turned a warm, happy shade. He smiled, and his teeth weren't scary at all—they were just regular teeth!

"You were brave to help someone you didn't know," Zippy told Leo. "That's the real magic."

From that day on, Leo and Zippy became the best of friends. And sometimes, on hot summer days, they'd swim together in the pool, while Buttercup watched from the fence, munching on oranges that Leo brought just for her.

Leo learned that kindness can turn even the scariest situations into wonderful friendships—and that real magic isn't found in oranges or spells, but in brave and caring hearts.
