The Zombie Who Lost His Glow

Lily loved exploring her grandmother's garden, especially the towering palm tree that touched the sky. One evening, as the sun painted everything orange and gold, she spotted something strange moving between the flowers.

It was a zombie! But not like in scary stories. This zombie looked sad and shuffly, his gray skin drooping like melted wax.

"Hello?" Lily called out bravely.

The zombie jumped. "Oh! You can see me?" His voice sounded like crunchy autumn leaves.

"I'm Ziggy," he said. "I used to be the garden's magical guardian. But I lost my glow when lightning struck the old oak tree last week. Now I'm all zombie-ish and nobody notices me."

Lily's heart went out to him. "Maybe I can help!"

She noticed Ziggy's chest was hollow. "What used to go there?"

"A special orange crystal," Ziggy sighed. "It captured sunshine and made everything grow. Without it, I'm just... well, a zombie."

Lily remembered seeing something orange and sparkling near the oak tree! She took Ziggy's cold, papery hand—surprisingly gentle—and led him through the garden.

"There!" she pointed, beneath the burnt oak.

The orange crystal glowed softly in the twilight. But something was wrong—it was cracked and dim.

"It needs friendship magic to work again," Ziggy said sadly.

Lily had an idea. She placed her palm over the crystal. "You too, Ziggy. Together."

Ziggy's gray hand covered hers. For a moment, nothing happened. Then—ZZZT! A tiny lightning bolt of pure friendship shot from their palms!

The crystal blazed orange! Golden light filled Ziggy's chest, flowing through his whole body. His gray skin turned warm and brown. His droopy face lifted into a brilliant smile.

"Lily, you did it!" Ziggy twirled, leaving sparkling footprints. "You saw me when I was invisible, helped when I was helpless, and believed when I had no hope. That's the strongest magic."

That night, Lily learned something wonderful: true friends don't care what you look like on the outside. They see the light inside and help it shine brighter than ever.

And sometimes? The best friends are the ones you find when you least expect them—even in a garden at sunset, wearing zombie pajamas and looking for their glow.
