The Zombie Who Learned to Swim

Lily loved summer days at her grandmother's house, especially the old swimming pool in the backyard. It wasn't fancy like the ones in movies, but it had something magical about it.

One afternoon, while Lily was practicing her swimming, she noticed something strange. A thick black cable snaked across the grass from the house, dangling right above the pool's edge. Grandma had mentioned old television cables still buried in the garden, but this one seemed to shimmer.

When Lily swam near it, the cable pulsed with blue light. Suddenly, bubbles rose from the deep end. A figure emerged—not scary, but a little zombie boy with greenish skin and patchwork clothes. He looked confused and lonely.

"Are you... a zombie?" Lily asked, staying in the water.

The zombie nodded sadly. "I've been stuck in the old television for fifty years. Nobody watched my show anymore, so I faded away. The cable must have brought me here."

Lily noticed he was shivering. "You look lonely. Do you know how to swim?"

The zombie shook his head. "Zombies don't swim. We just... lurch."

"I can teach you!" Lily splashed happily. "Swimming is like flying, but in water. It's magical."

For the next hour, Lily taught her new friend to float, kick, and glide. The zombie, whose name was Zed, turned out to be an excellent swimmer. His zombie strength helped him power through the water like a dolphin.

"You're not scary at all," Lily said when they took a break. "You're just someone who needed a friend."

Zed smiled, his green face lighting up. "I never thought swimming could be so wonderful. Thank you, Lily."

Grandma came outside just as Zed disappeared back into the cable, promising to return. The old cable settled into the grass, now glowing faintly.

"Who were you talking to, dear?" Grandma asked.

Lily smiled, diving back into the pool. "Just a new friend who learned that magic happens when you're brave enough to try something new."

The swimming pool felt more enchanted than ever, and Lily knew that summer would bring many more adventures with her unexpected zombie friend.
