The Zombie Who Learned to Dance
Penelope was a clever little fox with bright orange fur and a very big dream. She wanted to find the best friend in the whole wide world. Every night, she would peek through the window of the old house at the edge of the forest, watching the children play inside. But she was too shy to say hello.
One stormy evening, as lightning cracked across the sky like a giant's whip, Penelope spotted something strange in the garden. A lumpy, green figure was standing perfectly still in the vegetable patch. It was a zombie! Penelope's grandmother had told her stories about zombies—stiff, slow creatures who stumbled around saying "Brains!" But this one just stood there, its one eye glowing softly in the dark.
Penelope crept closer, her tail twitching with curiosity. The zombie didn't move. It didn't say "Brains!" It just held out a stiff, green hand.
"Hello?" Penelope whispered.
The zombie's head creaked to the side. Its painted smile seemed friendly.
Then Penelope noticed something magical. Each time lightning flashed, the zombie's eye would sparkle brighter, and its stiff legs would wiggle just a tiny bit. The lightning was filling it with magic!
"Would you like to dance?" Penelope asked bravely.
The zombie nodded slowly. Penelope began to hop and skip, and to her delight, the zombie started to move too! First a clumsy shuffle, then a wobbly spin. With every lightning flash, the zombie danced more smoothly.
They danced all night as the storm rained down sparkles around them. Penelope laughed so hard her belly hurt. The zombie didn't speak, but it didn't need to—its happy movements said everything.
By morning, the zombie had learned to twirl and leap and even do a little bow. Penelope curtsied back.
"You're my best friend," she said.
The zombie patted her softly with its green hand.
Penelope learned that sometimes the scariest-looking things can be the most wonderful friends—if you're brave enough to say hello. And every stormy night after that, the little fox and her zombie friend would dance under the lightning, celebrating their unexpected friendship.
