The Zombie Who Hugged Palms

Lily loved visiting her grandma's beach house. Every morning, she would run across the warm sand to the ancient palm tree that stood like a friendly giant at the edge of the shore. Its leaves danced in the ocean breeze, and Lily always waved hello.

One sunny afternoon, Lily noticed something strange. A small, funny-looking figure was shuffling toward the palm tree. It had green skin, buttons for eyes, and moved with a wobbly, jerky walk.

"Hello!" Lily called out bravely. "Who are you?"

The little creature stopped and smiled. "I'm Ziggy! I'm a beach zombie, but not the scary kind. I'm made of magic sand and sunshine!"

Ziggy told Lily that he had been created by a playful mermaid who wanted someone to take care of her favorite palm tree. "My job is to give this tree a hug every sunset," Ziggy explained. "But I'm lonely. Nobody wants to be friends with a zombie."

Lily's heart went out to him. "I'll be your friend!" she declared.

Every day that week, Lily helped Ziggy care for the palm tree. They sang songs, danced in the waves, and collected seashells together. Ziggy was funny and kind, always making Lily laugh with his wobbly walks and silly jokes.

On the last day of Lily's vacation, she wanted to give Ziggy a special gift. She remembered her grandma's basket of oranges from the market. Lily carefully selected the roundest, brightest orange and decorated it with a smiley face using seashells.

"This is for you!" Lily presented the orange like a treasure. "Now you have your very own sunshine ball!"

Ziggy's eyes sparkled with joy. He gave Lily the biggest, warmest hug, and they both danced around the palm tree, laughing as the sunset painted the sky pink and gold.

"Friends come in all shapes and sizes," Grandma said later that night. "Even zombies who hug palm trees."

Lily smiled, knowing she had found the most magical friend of all.
