The Zombie Who Guarded Dreams
Lily was ten years old when she discovered the magic in her backyard. One moonlit night, her fluffy cat Whiskers and playful dog Barnaby refused to come inside. Instead, they led her to the ancient palm tree at the far edge of the garden.
The palm tree shimmered with silver light, its fronds whispering secrets in the breeze. Lily approached cautiously, her heart pounding with wonder. From behind the tree emerged not a monster, but a gentle figure with wild, colorful hair that flowed like a rainbow in the night air.
"I am Zara," the figure said softly. "I'm a zombie, but not the scary kind. I'm the Guardian of Animal Dreams."
Lily's eyes widened. Zara's green skin glowed softly, and her hair sparkled with tiny stars. The zombie explained that every full moon, she watched over sleeping animals, protecting them from nightmares. Whiskers and Barnaby had brought Lily here because they sensed her kindness.
"You see," Zara continued, "people think zombies are scary. But some of us are just different. We have magic too."
Lily reached out and touched Zara's hand. It was warm, not cold like she expected. Together, they sat beneath the palm tree while Zara showed Lily beautiful dreams—dreams of flying puppies, dancing kittens, and oceans made of strawberry milk.
"Will you come back?" Zara asked as dawn approached.
"Every month," Lily promised, hugging her new friend.
From that night on, Lily learned that true friends come in all shapes, sizes, and forms. Sometimes the most magical beings are the ones we're told to fear, and sometimes a cat and dog know more about friendship than anyone else.
And every full moon, beneath the silver palm tree, three friends—two humans and one zombie—would share dreams and prove that love sees beyond appearances.
