The Zombie Who Grew Papayas

Lily was the smallest kid in her class, but she had the biggest imagination. Every day after school, she'd take the old cable car up Foggy Mountain just to see where it went. The cable creaked and swayed, carrying her through the clouds to a place nobody else ever visited.

One day, at the very top of the mountain, Lily discovered something magical. A whole garden of bright orange papayas glowed in the mist! But standing among the papaya trees was the most surprising thing—a zombie!

But this zombie wasn't scary at all. He wore a floppy sun hat and overalls covered in flower patterns. He was carefully watering papaya plants with a shiny silver watering can.

"Hello there!" the zombie said, his voice sounding like crunching autumn leaves. "I'm Zeb! Would you like to try my papayas?"

Lily stepped closer. "But... you're a zombie. Aren't zombies supposed to be scary?"

Zeb laughed, and it sounded like twinkling bells. "That's just what people say! I've never scared anyone. I just love growing things. See this papaya?" He held up a glowing orange fruit. "When you eat it with a friend, it makes you both feel happy inside!"

Lily's eyes widened. "Really?"

"Really!" Zeb smiled. "But I haven't had anyone to share my magical papayas with for a very long time. Everyone runs away when they see me."

Lily felt sad for Zeb. That wasn't fair at all! "Well," she said bravely, "I'm not running away. I'd love to try a papaya with you!"

Together, they sat on a mossy rock and shared the sweetest, most wonderful papaya either had ever tasted. Suddenly, rainbow sparkles floated around them, and Lily felt warm and happy inside.

"I'll come back every day!" Lily promised. "And I'll tell everyone that zombies can be the best friends ever."

And she did. Soon, children from all over took the cable up the mountain to visit Zeb and his magical papaya garden. They learned that the best way to make friends is to be brave enough to say hello—even to someone who looks different from you.

After all, everyone deserves a friend who will share their papayas.
