The Zombie Who Grew Magic
Lily discovered something strange behind the old oak tree. It was a small, shiny rectangle—her dad's lost iPhone! But when she touched it, the screen glowed purple instead of blue. Strange symbols floated across the display like fireflies.
"Who's there?" a voice croaked from the bushes.
Lily jumped. A green-skinned boy stepped out, leaves tangled in his messy hair. He looked a bit like a zombie from her storybooks, but his eyes were kind and twinkly.
"I'm Zeb," he said. "I've been sleeping for a hundred years. The garden woke me up."
Zeb pointed to a patch of vibrant green plants. "Magic spinach," he whispered. "One bite gives you the power to understand anything. Even phones."
He plucked a leaf and nibbled it. His eyes widened. "This iPhone... it's not like other phones. It belonged to the garden's first keeper. It shows the true heart of things."
Lily's heart pounded. "Can I try?" She ate a spinach leaf. Suddenly, she could hear the oak tree laughing in the wind, and the iPhone showed her a map of hidden garden treasures.
"But," Zeb said sadly, "people will fear me because I look different."
Lily looked at her new friend—messy, green, but more magical than anything she'd ever known. "They won't," she said firmly. "I'll show them. Friends see with their hearts, not their eyes."
That summer, Lily and Zeb used the magic iPhone to create the most magnificent garden the neighborhood had ever seen. And when others saw how Zeb could make flowers bloom with just a smile, they didn't see a zombie anymore. They saw a friend.
Sometimes the most wonderful things come from the most unexpected places—even from a zombie who loved spinach.
