The Zombie Who Forgot to Scare

Lily was running through her backyard on a sunny Saturday, her favorite sneakers thumping against the grass. She stopped by the old swimming pool, now empty and filled with autumn leaves. That's when she heard it—a tiny sneeze from inside the pool.

Curious, Lily peeked over the edge. There sat a small green creature with patchy skin and one crooked tooth. A zombie! But this zombie wasn't scary at all. He was holding her lost cat's favorite toy mouse.

"I'm Zed," the zombie whispered shyly. "I found this toy. Is it yours?"

Lily's cat, Mittens, purred and rubbed against Zed's leg. Surprisingly, Mittens liked him!

"I was supposed to be scary," Zed sighed, "but I keep forgetting how. Maybe I need practice."

Lily pulled out her iPhone and showed Zed funny videos. They laughed together until her stomach hurt. Then Lily had an idea. "Zed, maybe you're not a zombie at all. Maybe you're something new—something wonderful!"

Together they discovered Zed's real talent. He could make flowers bloom by touching them. He could turn fallen leaves into butterflies. Zed wasn't a zombie who scared people—he was a ZOMBIE who brought joy!

Mittens the cat curled up in Zed's lap, and Lily knew she had found a magical friend. Some things aren't what they seem at first, and the best surprises come when you look beyond appearances.

That evening, Lily learned that kindness always wins over fear. And sometimes, the most unlikely friends become the most wonderful ones of all.
