The Zombie Who Forgot How to Stumble

Penny had the wildest hair in school. It bounced when she walked, sparkled when she spun, and sometimes—she swore—whispered secrets when the wind blew. One summer day, while swimming at Mirror Lake, she spotted something strange beneath the sparkling water.

A green figure stumbling along the bottom!

Penny dove down and discovered a zombie named Zedd. But Zedd wasn't scary at all. He was a marshmallow-zombie, soft and squishy, created by a wizard's spell gone wonderfully wrong. His problem? He'd forgotten how to stumble.

"I'm supposed to lurch and groan," Zedd bubbled sadly. "But I keep floating!"

Penny laughed. "Maybe you're not a stumbling zombie. Maybe you're a swimming zombie!"

Zedd's eyes widened. "I never thought of that!"

They became instant friends. Zedd showed Penny underwater caves filled with glowing crystals. Penny taught Zedd how to have hair races—blowing bubbles to see whose would reach the surface fastest. But Penny kept her secret.

She was a spy.

Not the sneaky kind. A Wonder Spy. Her papaya tree at home had stopped growing papayas, and she'd made a secret promise to find out why. So while playing with Zedd, she kept her eyes open.

One day, Zedd took her to his favorite spot—the underwater Garden of Tumbled Things. There, among lost toys and forgotten treasures, Penny spotted something magical. A papaya seed, glowing golden!

"That belongs to my tree!" she gasped.

Zedd nodded wisely. "The garden gives back what's been forgotten. Your tree forgot how to dream papayas. Someone needs to remember for it."

Penny understood. She carried the glowing seed home, planting it with care. That night, she whispered to the soil, "Dream big, little tree. Dream papayas!"

By morning, a single perfect papaya hung from the branches. And inside? Another tiny seed, ready to dream.

Penny learned that everyone forgets sometimes—zombies, trees, even Wonder Spies. But true friends help you remember who you're meant to be. And sometimes, that means discovering you're not stumbling through life... you're swimming through it, wonder by wonderful wonder.
