The Zombie Who Forgot How to Smile

Lily loved exploring her grandmother's attic. On rainy afternoons, she'd dig through dusty boxes and treasure chests. One Tuesday, she found something extraordinary: a floppy purple hat with silver stars stitched around the brim.

"Try it on," whispered a voice from the shadows.

Lily jumped. A figure stood in the corner—gray skin, tangled hair, clothes full of holes. A zombie!

But this zombie didn't moan or shuffle. He held a golden padel paddle and looked terribly sad.

"I'm Zombob," he said. "I've forgotten how to smile. Can you help me?"

Lily's heart softened. "Put on this hat," she said, placing it on his head.

POOF! The attic vanished. They stood on a beach with swaying palm trees and crystal-blue water.

"Wow!" Lily gasped.

Zombob's eyes widened. "This is my home!" He pointed to a papaya tree. "My favorite fruit!"

They ran to the tree. Zombob reached for a papaya, but his arms moved slowly—like syrup dripping from a spoon.

"Let me help," said Lily. She climbed the tree and tossed down a ripe papaya.

Zombob took a bite. Juice dribbled down his chin. Something magical happened. His gray cheeks turned pink. His eyes brightened.

"It's working!" Lily cheered. "What else makes you happy?"

"Padel!" Zombob shouted. "I love padel!"

They played padel on the sand, laughing as the ball bounced between them. With every hit, Zombob moved faster. His skin became warmer, his smile wider.

Suddenly, the hat started glowing. Zombob transformed completely—no longer gray and slow, but brown-eyed and full of life.

"You saved me," Zombob said, hugging Lily. "I wasn't really a zombie. I was under a sadness spell. Friendship broke it."

"That's what friends do," Lily smiled.

They sat under the palm trees, sharing papayas, knowing that kindness and friendship are the strongest magic of all.
